Bob Costas is a jerk. He was so close to offending me during the opening ceremonies with his comments about other countries' traditional clothing. Not to mention that he's just an annoying person. So though I'm sad I'll miss most of the Olympics, I won't be missing Bob. |

| | Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated | ] | So, as reported in the Spotted Sun's report, thetristero decided to throw a birthday bash. There certainly was some bashing after the Sutherland guy left, and when we got hold of the pinata, whose remains I turned into some sort of shamanistic totem. At least in my mind. Plus, they had some pretty wicked cool Silly String. It ruled. Anyway, the rest of the night was pretty fun. See afformentioned sunspot post for details. After Thor, Sunspot and wellofsilence left though, I noticed something funny. Everyone who was left in the room with thetristero had been in or is in a relationship with her. It was like the tristero's Rogues gallery. It wasn't really weird, but just an interesting observation.
By the way, I have discovered the Mega Man 5 for the Gameboy is actually one of, if not the best Mega Man game, at least NES style. The enemies are cool, there's lots of story, the levels are challenging but not impossible, and Wily has a death star. It just doesn't get much better. Capcom should be less afraid of not including Wily and/or Sigma in their plots. Especially in the X series. Are we really to believe that Sigma is around enough for the Maverick Hunters to fight him constantly? Why not another maverick overlord? That could be cool.
Anyway, I'll be seeing people at Ali's house lata, so until next time true believers, 'Nuff Said. |

| | The Association - Windy | ] | The Well of Silence speaks true! It has been a while since I've updated. But I've been busy. And forgetful. So, and in any case, here's an update!
This week has been a little nutty. Monday I finished some Mission shopping, and proceeded to spend the night at wellofsilence's. We beat Mega Man X, made Mock Apple Pie (too much Lemon), and saw Cactus Chef playing "We Didn't Start the Fire" on a flute. He got his Lappytop that morning, and I headed home. I could and should have gotten some work done, but I just laid around til I had to leave for Thespian's good bye camp out. I brought the Pancake batter. Wellofsilence failed to mention that all he really did was cook the premade pancakes. The one who came closest to making them was me. I stirred the milk in for goodness' sake! I returned home after purchasing 30 some odd dollars worth of Comic Books. It's been a couple weeks ok? It was kinda sad, cause it's one the last times I'll see Doug down at Fantasy Rules. He's had trouble keeping his business alive, and I've been one of his better customers, so good luck to him. Speaking of Comic Books, DC's New Frontier mini-series is still continuing to be awesome, as is Superman with Jim Lee . The Avengers #500 was particularly awesome. It starts the Avengers Disassembled story arc with a bang. Literally. Avengers are dying left and right, and you have no idea what the crap is going on. There's a reason they called it chaos. And of course it rocks. It's Brian Micheal Bendis (my Mamet of comic books) and David Finch (one of Marvel's best new artists). This Dissasembled arc is pretty extreme. It crosses over into six other titles. It's bigtime stuff. Still speaking of comic books, Hulk #75 was really lame, even though they said it was a big special issue. Also, they need a new Iron Man artist. When he draws Iron Man, the suit looks like a twig. Only Calista Flockheart could wear that thing. Also, Ultimate Fantastic Four continues to be great. It really captures what I think of the Fantastic Four as being, though the other Fantastic Four titles have been doing this admirably for a while now. And if you want to see something cool and comic related, go to Scott McCloud's site. He wrote "Understanding Comics", which basically changed my life in a sad sort of way, and is a visionary when it comes to the future of the medium. Particularly, he has really begun experimenting with the capiblities of the computer and the format of comics. He's also pursuing this idea called micropayments, creators being able to make a completely computer-based comic book for virtually nothing (no printing, distribution) and sell it for pocket change. The idea is that the buyer would be more willing to buy it for such a small price, and would buy and be able to buy more. I'm not sure how feasible it is, but Scott is trying it out now. Check out his story "The Right Number", parts 1 and 2 and you'll see what I mean. It'll cost you 50 cents, but it's worth it.
That was a big paragraph. Let's see, what else. Oh, yeah! For all the Mega Maniacs who read this, so, basically, wellofsilence, here are some cool Mega Man Websites.
The Mega Man Homepage: Whoever runs this site is obsessed. It has everything. Really. This guy writes Mega Man books for fun.
Mega Man EraS: This site was made to have professional quality fan-art. And they have it. And it rules.
Iragination: This is a great site. Check out the comics and games. I spent a long time here.
Ok. What else. Let me see.....Oh yeah. PEOPLE YOUNGER THAN ME THAT I KNOW SHOULD NOT BE GETTING MARRIED IN DECEMBER! There, I said it. Good grief.
I got a letter from my future Mission President. He mentioned that winter temperatures range from +30 to -50 degrees F. WHEEEEEE!!!!
I'm playing Racquetball, maybe for the last time before my Mission, with the guys today. That should be fun. Right? Guys?
Oh, I agree with Sunspot's appraisal of Shakes this year. Though I didn't see Morning's at Seven, I felt the same way about the other shows.
Ok, now I think that I'm out of ideas. So, until next time true believers, 'Nuff Said! |

Hey! The hotel has a computer in the lobby. Neat huh?
Anyway, last night we saw The Taming of the Shrew. I very much enjoyed it. The actors who played Katherine and Petruchio were great. I did think that the director took some liberties with the script that I wouldn't have. I don't think you need to add corny jokes to make Shakespeare funny. But all in all it was good. What wasn't so good was the fact that there was ash raining down on us during the performance. Evidently there's a forest fire somewhere. Today we're seeing My Fair Lady and Henry IV Part 1. I bought a Dover thrift edition of Henry, and I hope to have it finished by the time we see the play. I would have bought a better copy, but it was all they had.
I got to see most of Kerry's speech last night. I liked it well enough, but I really hate politics. If you really want to know why I'm a Democrat, it's because they scare me less than Republicans. I hate this two party system crap. We don't we just make good decisions? Wouldn't that be nice?
Anyway, I gotta get going on Henry if I want to have it done. Btw, you should all read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It's a really great book. And it has a lot to do with comics. It won the Pulitzer, so you know it's good.
Well, that's all I got for now. Flourish and Exeunt! |

| | Oasis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out | ] | I've been playing Mega Man nonstop. See, I tend to beat all the Robot Masters on one game, get fed up with the Wily levels, and take a break and move on to another game. So, I'm at the final stages for Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. I've started 4 and 8. I've yet to play 6 in any significant way. And man can I feel for Nick. Mega Man 1 is surprisingly difficult. I thought I was going to kill myself during Ice Man's stage. Not to mention that you can't slide under things, and you keep moving after you stop, which makes things harder.
I'm gonna be leaving for Shakes tomorrow with the folks. Hopefully the weather will be nice by the time we get down there. It's been nuts the past couple of days. I'm excited though. I've been dying for some Shakespeare. I can't remember what we're seeing, but I'll tell you when I get back.
I'm HOPING to have a B-Day bash before Mikey leaves, so he can join in the fun. I'll accomodate as much as I can, as I know that Mike is planning something, and he has priority, and I think there may be one other party in the works for that week as well. If my party happens, I hope it lives up to expectations. I really outdid myself last year, which is a problem, as now I have to at least equal if not surpass that party. I have plans, and it should be good, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.
I wanna show you guys something. This is a page from Mr. Majestic #1, coming out next week from DC Comics. Mr. Majestic is a character created for the Wildstorm universe, a DC company known for titles that are a little more offbeat and slightly more mature than mainstream DC titles. Mr. Majestic was created as a type of Superman a couple of years back, and they played around with the character and poked fun at the Superman mythos. Since then I think he may have gained some sort of cult following, but in any case, DC has decided to merge him into the standard DC universe. That was a long introduction for something that is really nothing more than Kryptonite-Kid-thinks-this is-cool kinda stuff, but take a look anyway. I really like those last three panels. Hee hee. I love the subtle use of powers like that.
Anyway, I think that should tide you over for now. I'll have my cell with me in Cedar City, so feel free to call. Not that you do anyway. So until next time true believers, 'Nuff Said. |

| | Mega Man 3 intro music | ] | Oh boy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Oboyoboyoboyoboyoboyoboyoboy! The Mega Man Anniversary Collection is available for PS2! And I bought it! And I love it! Not only that, but thanks to Steph's target gift card, it only cost me 6 bucks! Hehe!
It's so great to have all the Mega Man games on a disc. I don't have to worry about dusty cartridges and such. Plus there are just enough fun new features to really make it worth it. Autosave is a god send, especially for MM1, which has no passwords. The two new games are really fun too. Evidently they're two player. I can't wait to try it out. Plus, there are secrets you can unlock. I don't have alot yet, but soon. Soon they will be mine!
I've done nothing but play Mega Man all day, and I think I'm gonna go play some more soon. I love it. This is the kind of stuff that makes me warm and gooey on the inside. Cya later. I've got Robot Masters to defeat!
P.S. Mega Man 1 is SO HARD! |

| | Led Zeppelin - The Ocean | ] | I got to sleep in and do nothing today! Wheeeeee! It was a nice change. I gathered all the video games I could find today. My NES is somewhere, and I don't know where that is, so that's a problem, but I'm sure it'll turn up. I thought I had alot more video games. Oh well.
I played Armored Core 2 for a while. That's a cool game. I also played Monster Rancher for a good bit. I'd forgotten how fun that game was. After last night at wellofsilence's, I need a Mega Man game. I'm thinking about going out and getting a cheap copy of Mega Man X4 or Mega Man Legends. But who knows. I also played Operation WinBack for a bit. It's basically Metal Gear Solid Lite for the N64, but I really enjoy it.
Still pretty unhappy about the Green Lantern fiasco. Perhaps what upsets me most is that I think it could make a really good comedy. I mean, Jack Black is chosen by the Ring to be the Green Lantern of Sector 2814 (Earth basically), and he has to try and figure out how to use a ring that does any crazy thing he can think of, while trying to grow into the role of Green Lantern. That could be a funny movie with a nice, happy, moral ending. Here's my major problem. That isn't Kyle Rayner's story. Make it someone else, and I might be ok with it. I still wouldn't think that Green Lantern's screen debut should be a comedy, but I see how it would work as one. But it can't be Kyle Rayner. He has a story already. We don't need a new one.
But yeah, didn't do much today. The last performance of Glengarry went well. wellofsilence and Thor showed up. I made some good friends in that class. They were all really talented actors.
I think this picture is particularly cool. It's Hero 1 from the City of Heroes mythos. He was british. Then he died. But I love that picture. I wish it was bigger.
Check out these lyrics.
Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bedsitter people look back and lament Another day's useless energy is spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and suckles her son Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colours from our sight Red is grey and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion
It's from Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues. It's my favorite part of the seven minute song, and it comes at the very end. The song is cool, but that last bit is really nice.
I watched this really interesting special on the National Geographic Channel today. It talked about this theory that the Shroud of Turin is actually a fake that Da Vinci was commisioned to make by the Savoy family. It was fascinating. There's really compelling evidence that Da Vinci could have used light sensitive chemicals and a Camera Obscura to create the shroud. They've tried making shrouds using the phtographic techniques that would have been available to Da Vinci, and it makes an image just like the one on the shroud. Photography in the Renaissance. Really cool stuff.
Evidently Andy is working in one of his Dad's nursing homes. He sent me a text message about "feces painting" that made me even more wary of nursing homes than I already was.
I don't think I have anthing else. Goodnight fellows! |
